North Tripura was shaken on the morning of October 1, during the festive Durga Puja celebrations, when six notorious inmates escaped from the Sub-Jail in Kalikapur, Dharmanagar. The incident has raised serious questions about the jail’s security and administrative oversight.
The escape prompted immediate action from the North Tripura district administration and police department. Under the leadership of SP Avinash Rai, a coordinated search operation is underway.
So far, three of the escapees—Narayan Dutta, Abdul Pata, and Rahim Ali—have been apprehended.
Rahim Ali, a resident of Fulbari village, was wanted in a theft and robbery case registered at Kadamtala Police Station. He was later brought to Dharmanagar from Sri Bhumi district, Assam.
However, three escapees remain at large: Roshan Ali, the notorious robber Nazim Uddin, and Sunil Debbarma. Police have intensified patrols, particularly near border areas, to prevent them from fleeing the state. Authorities are also interrogating the captured inmates to trace the whereabouts of the remaining fugitives.
Following the escape, jail security has been tightened, and several responsible staff members are under questioning. While local residents feel some relief due to police vigilance, concern persists until all fugitives are caught. A case has been registered at Dharmanagar Police Station under number 88/25.
