Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha today highlighted Tripura’s strong performance under the Panchayat Advancement Index, stating that 42 Panchayats in the state achieved Grade-A, while not a single Panchayat fell under Grade-D.

Speaking at the Two-Day Panchayati Raj Capacity Building Programme at the State Panchayat Resource Centre, A. D. Nagar, Agartala, Dr. Saha urged all Panchayat representatives to work with accountability to further strengthen local governance.

He said, “Under the Panchayat Advancement Index, 42 Panchayats achieved Grade-A, 728 secured Grade-B, and 406 Panchayats obtained Grade-C. None fell under Grade-D. This reflects the progress we have made in strengthening rural governance.”

The Chief Minister emphasized the significance of Panchayats, saying, “Panchayats are an essential pillar of democracy. The three-tier Panchayat system forms the base of governance. A strong Panchayat system ensures progress at the state level and strengthens the nation. Panchayats are responsible for implementing numerous state and central government schemes; without their active participation, neither the state nor the country can progress.”

Dr. Saha added, “Transparency is our strongest weapon, and everyone must work with it. During the Left regime, Panchayats often became centers of political activity. We have moved beyond that. We are elected to serve the common people and must implement schemes for their benefit. Around 60–70% of our population lives in rural areas, and our GSDP and per capita income depend heavily on rural economic development. Our government has been focusing on holistic village development, including drinking water, education, health, and other essential sectors, especially since PM Modi assumed office.”

He also shared that Tripura ranked 7th in the Panchayat Devolution Index this year, a notable improvement from 13th position in 2015.

Panchayat Minister Kishor Barman, Secretary Abhishek Singh, Director Prasun Dey, and other dignitaries were present at the event.
