Three minor girls from Tripura were rescued in Ahmedabad following a coordinated operation by Tripura Police and Gujarat Police after they were allegedly taken out of the state by a man identified as Mukhes Reang.
According to Dhalai district Additional Superintendent of Police Uttam Banik, the girls, aged between 15 and 16 years, left their homes with the accused on Monday. The group reportedly travelled from Agartala to Ahmedabad via Kolkata after departing from Agartala Airport.
The incident came to light when the families of the girls filed a complaint at Ganganagar Police Station later the same day. As all three were minors, police registered a kidnapping case and immediately launched efforts to trace their whereabouts.
Tripura Police alerted senior officials and coordinated with Gujarat Police after confirming that the group had already reached Ahmedabad. Investigators shared photographs, travel details and other relevant information with their counterparts, enabling Gujarat Police to launch a search operation.
Late Tuesday night, Gujarat Police located the accused along with the three girls and took them into custody. Their identities were subsequently verified by Tripura Police using photographs sent by the Gujarat authorities.
A police team from Tripura has already departed for Gujarat and is expected to arrive on Friday. The team will complete the required legal formalities, seek transit remand for the accused, and escort both him and the rescued girls back to Tripura.
During preliminary questioning, the girls reportedly told police they wished to remain in Gujarat for employment rather than return home. Officials said they have also been able to speak with their families.
Police are continuing their investigation to determine whether the incident is linked to human trafficking or if a larger network was involved. Authorities said further action will be taken in accordance with the law after the victims are brought back to Tripura.
