Tripura witnessed a largely peaceful New Year celebration as police enforcement across the state led to the detention of 106 individuals for various violations, including unruly conduct and drunk driving, on the intervening night of December 31, 2025, and January 1, 2026.

Notably, only one accident was reported during the period, reflecting the effectiveness of preventive policing.

A senior police official said that security arrangements were significantly strengthened in both urban and rural areas, with special focus on Agartala city and other crowded locations. Police teams were deployed at strategic points, and continuous vehicle checks were conducted to curb traffic violations and ensure public safety.

“Anticipating large gatherings during New Year celebrations, we intensified patrols and checks across the state. Strict action was taken against those involved in disorderly behaviour and driving under the influence,” the official said.

Of the total detainees, 82 were booked for creating public disturbances, while 24 were apprehended for drunk driving. District-wise figures show one detention in North Tripura, 19 in Unakoti, 42 in Dhalai, and 10 each in Gomati and South Tripura for unruly behaviour. Drink-and-drive cases included five from Unakoti, one from Khowai, six from West Tripura, four from Gomati, and eight from South Tripura.

Police stated that law and order remained stable throughout the night.
