Security has been stepped up across Agartala ahead of Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s scheduled visit on Thursday.
According to officials from the Government of Tripura, extensive security measures have been implemented throughout the city, with a significant deployment of police and security personnel at strategic locations. The Union Home Minister will attend the Joint Regional Official Language Conference of the Northern and Eastern Regions on February 20 and is expected to stay overnight in the state capital.
During his visit, Shah is also likely to hold discussions with Chief Minister Manik Saha and senior leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), along with representatives from alliance partners such as the Indigenous People's Front of Tripura and the Tipra Motha Party.
In preparation for the high-profile visit, an Advanced Security Liaison (ASL) meeting was convened on February 18 at Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport and the Hapania International Fair Ground in Agartala. The meeting focused on ensuring robust security arrangements, seamless coordination among departments, and the smooth conduct of all official engagements.
Senior civil and police officials, along with representatives from the Ministry of Home Affairs, participated in the review meeting. Key attendees included West District Magistrate Dr. Vishal Kumar, West District Superintendent of Police Namit Pathak, Additional Superintendent of Police Dhruv Nath, Sub-Divisional Police Officer Parmita Pandey, and Traffic Superintendent Kanta Jangir.
Authorities carried out a detailed assessment of route security, venue safety, traffic regulation strategies, and emergency response preparedness. With enhanced vigilance and coordinated efforts across departments, the administration aims to ensure that the Union Home Minister’s visit proceeds without any disruptions.
