In a potential game-changer for the upcoming Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) elections, the Tipra Motha Party appears set to align with the ruling BJP, signaling a strategic consolidation of political forces in the tribal-dominated region.
Party founder and royal scion Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma has initiated high-level discussions with top BJP leaders, including BL Santosh and Sambit Patra, indicating serious negotiations over seat-sharing and electoral strategy.
Tipra Motha MLA Ranjit Debbarma confirmed that while the party maintains cordial ties with the IPFT, the electoral alliance for the TTAADC polls is being negotiated exclusively with the BJP. “We are hopeful that seat-sharing in the alliance will be finalized soon. Politics has seen many developments, but contesting in alliance with BJP appears to be the most strategic move,” he said, hinting at an imminent announcement.
Political observers suggest that this alliance could significantly alter the electoral arithmetic in the TTAADC, where tribal identity politics plays a decisive role. With Pradyot’s influence among tribal voters and the BJP’s organizational strength, a combined front could challenge other regional players and reshape the council’s power dynamics.
Ranjit Debbarma added that once the central talks conclude, Pradyot plans to convene all Tipra Motha leaders to finalize their election strategy. “Our aim is to fulfill the demands of our community while maximizing our electoral impact through a strategic alliance,” he said. Analysts note that a Tipra Motha–BJP partnership could mark a turning point in Tripura’s tribal political landscape, potentially sidelining smaller regional parties like the IPFT despite their continued collaboration on other fronts.
With negotiations reportedly entering their final phase, political circles in Agartala are closely watching for the official announcement, which could redefine the TTAADC electoral contest in the coming weeks.
