Leaders of the ruling Tipra Motha Party in the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) on Friday met Tripura Director General of Police (DGP) Anurag and urged immediate intervention to restore peace and normalcy in the Takarjala Assembly Constituency.
Two separate delegations led by MLA Biswajit Kalai and Member of District Council (MDC) Suraj Debbarma submitted a memorandum highlighting a series of alleged violent incidents in the constituency before and after the TTAADC General Election 2026.
In the memorandum, the party alleged that incidents such as bomb attacks and armed violence have created fear and insecurity among residents, disturbing the peace in the region.
Referring to the violence that took place on April 10, 2026, near the residence of BJP candidate and Mandal President Nirmal Debbarma, Tipra Motha claimed that their party workers were allegedly attacked in front of police personnel using firearms and sharp weapons. Several people, including the Superintendent of Police of Sepahijala district, were reportedly injured in the incident.
The delegation alleged that despite the seriousness of the matter, no arrests have been made so far, raising concerns over the impartiality of the police administration.
The party further accused the police of taking action selectively and claimed that justice for Tipra Motha workers has been delayed or ignored. According to the memorandum, several accused persons linked to the April violence are still at large despite what they described as “sufficient evidence.”
The memorandum also referred to four bomb blast incidents that allegedly took place on May 9, 2026, in Jampuijala and Takarjala constituencies, reportedly targeting the houses of Tipra Motha supporters. The party additionally alleged that a Youth Tipra Federation member was attacked in a firing incident.
Tipra Motha leaders questioned why their party workers were repeatedly being targeted and expressed concern that the recurrence of such incidents could further destabilize the law and order situation in the area.
The delegation also alleged that some accused individuals were being sheltered at Bhagat Singh Youth Hostel in Agartala and claimed that political influence was affecting fair police functioning.
Seeking urgent action, the party demanded enhanced police patrolling in sensitive areas, especially during night hours, installation of check posts at vulnerable entry and exit points, and formation of a special task force to identify and act against those involved in violent activities.
The leaders stated that they are willing to cooperate fully with the administration to help restore peace and security in the region.
