Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) President Asish Kumar Saha has strongly criticized the state government, alleging that the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund is being used in a partisan manner and referring to it as a “BJP relief fund.”
Speaking to the media, Saha said that Chief Minister Manik Saha recently announced financial assistance of ₹65 lakh for 258 families from the CM Relief Fund after visiting areas affected by post-poll violence.
He alleged that the aid was directed primarily toward BJP workers.
According to Saha, providing relief to victims of violence is a basic responsibility of the government and should not be limited to supporters of any political party. He claimed that during incidents of violence over the past several years, opposition workers, leaders, and their properties were also targeted, but no similar financial assistance was extended to them.
He further raised concerns about the use of funds collected under the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund, questioning whether it is being distributed in an impartial manner. Saha argued that if such assistance were provided through party channels, there would be less controversy, but using the official relief fund for what he described as selective distribution raises ethical concerns.
“The Chief Minister should exercise caution in the use of public relief funds. This fund belongs to all citizens, not a single political party,” he said, adding that equal support should be ensured for all victims regardless of political affiliation.
Saha also referred to alleged post-election violence involving Tipra Motha supporters and stressed that government assistance should be extended fairly to all affected families. He demanded transparency in the distribution of relief and urged the administration to ensure that no discrimination is made on political grounds.
He concluded by reiterating that the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund must remain neutral and be used solely for public welfare, not for political benefit.
