The Tribal Welfare Department has taken a series of important decisions aimed at further improving the quality of education in tribal-dominated areas of the state. This direction emerged during a high-level meeting held on Monday at the Secretariat, chaired by Minister Bikash Debbarma.
The meeting was attended by Member Secretaries and Principals of various schools and Eklavya Residential Model Schools, along with Executive Engineers of the Tribal Welfare Department and other concerned officials.
The main focus of the discussion was how to make modern and quality education more accessible for tribal boys and girls. The Minister informed that currently, 12 Eklavya Residential Model Schools are operational across different districts of the state. He further stated that the process of opening 6 more new schools is in its final stage, while another 3 schools are expected to become operational within the next one year.
He emphasized that increasing infrastructure alone is not sufficient, and equal importance must be given to improving the quality and environment of education. He stressed the need for coordinated efforts among teachers, administration, and parents to ensure the holistic development of students.
The expansion initiative in the education sector has been welcomed by a section of the academic community. They believe that increasing the number of residential schools in tribal-dominated areas will not only improve access to education but also open new avenues for social and cultural development.
