Tripura BJP MLA Rampada Jamatia on Wednesday was elected unopposed as the Speaker of the Tripura Legislative Assembly on Wednesday, during the fourth day of the ongoing Assembly session in Agartala.

The election process was conducted by Acting Speaker Ramprasad Paul, who informed the House that three separate proposals had been submitted nominating Jamatia for the post. The proposals were moved and supported by members across parties, including Chief Minister Manik Saha, Forest Minister Animesh Debbarma, and other MLAs.

With no opposing candidates or objections, the House unanimously approved the motion, and Rampada Jamatia was declared elected as Speaker.

Jamatia had filed his nomination papers a day earlier with Assembly Secretary A.K. Nath.

Following his election, leaders from both the ruling and opposition benches extended their congratulations. Chief Minister Manik Saha praised Jamatia’s experience as a two-time MLA and former minister, expressing confidence that he would uphold neutrality and strengthen the functioning of the Assembly.

Leader of the Opposition Jitendra Chaudhury also congratulated him, recalling his early days and emphasizing the importance of the Speaker’s role.

He expressed hope that the Opposition, despite its smaller presence, would be given fair opportunities to voice its concerns and that the dignity of the House would be maintained.

Several other leaders, including Chief Whip Kalyani Saha Roy and members from Tipra Motha and Congress, also conveyed their best wishes to the newly elected Speaker.
