Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha on Friday asserted that only national parties are capable of ensuring genuine development and progress, while regional parties fall short in delivering long-term growth.
Addressing an election rally at Vanghmun in Jampui Hills in support of BJP candidate Rabindra Reang, Dr. Saha criticized the Tipra Motha Party, accusing it of misleading people and misusing development funds intended for the welfare of Janajati communities under the TTAADC.
He highlighted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had mentioned Jampui Hills in his Mann Ki Baat program, which brought national and international attention to the region. Emphasizing inclusive growth, Dr. Saha said the government is committed to development for all sections of society under the vision of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas.”
Comparing the pre-2014 period with the present, he said India has witnessed significant progress in infrastructure, security, and global standing. He pointed to improved road connectivity in Jampui Hills as an example of development under the current government.
The Chief Minister further alleged large-scale corruption in the TTAADC, claiming that despite receiving substantial funds for tribal development, the Tipra Motha leadership failed to utilize them effectively.
“You gave them an opportunity, but the funds meant for development were misused. That is why BJP has decided to contest all 28 seats,” he said.
Dr. Saha also stated that BJP has taken strong action against corruption in other states and expressed confidence that the party would continue expanding its presence across the country.
Referring to alliance issues, he said BJP had intended to continue its partnership with Tipra Motha, but accused the party of frequently shifting its stance and creating divisions between communities.
He added that a significant portion of the state budget—over 49% in the 2024–25 financial year and more than 40% this year—has been allocated for Janajati development, alongside efforts to improve connectivity through national highways.
The Chief Minister also claimed that peace has returned to the Northeast and contrasted it with past governance marked by unrest and violence.
Accusing political opponents of spreading misinformation and inciting unrest, he said such actions undermine democracy and mislead the youth.
“Development remains our priority. Attempts to divide people and spread false narratives will not succeed,” Dr. Saha added.
