Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha announced on Monday that he will travel to Meghalaya to participate in the 23rd North Eastern Region (NER) Plenary Session. He also confirmed that Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to visit Tripura on June 5 to review international border infrastructure and attend a foundation stone-laying ceremony in Agartala.
Speaking to reporters, Dr. Saha said the previous NER Plenary Session was hosted by Tripura, while this year's edition will take place in Meghalaya on June 4.
The Chief Minister stated that Amit Shah's visit will focus on assessing border management initiatives and reviewing progress on the proposed smart border fencing system. The Home Minister is expected to inspect areas along the international border and evaluate measures being undertaken in Tripura, Assam, and West Bengal. Shah is also likely to visit parts of West Tripura and Sepahijala districts, although the itinerary has not yet been officially confirmed.
Dr. Saha further revealed that he has requested the Home Minister to inaugurate the bhoomi pujan (foundation stone-laying ceremony) for a proposed five-star hotel at Puspabanta Palace, the former Raj Bhawan in Agartala. The project is being developed following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Tata Group.
Regarding the upcoming plenary session, Dr. Saha said he will focus on investment opportunities in the Northeast in his capacity as convener. He plans to highlight measures needed to attract investors to the region, along with discussions on infrastructure development and other key issues.
The Chief Minister added that he will also raise matters related to the Tripura Space Application Centre (TSAC) and broader developmental concerns of the state during the session.
