The Pradesh Congress today launched a protest march and meeting in the capital, alleging irregularities in the electoral process.
The march, initiated as part of the Congress’s nationwide movement against vote rigging, was stopped by the police near the Buddha Mandir.
Subsequently, the protest meeting was held at the same location.
The meeting was attended by senior leaders, including Pradesh Congress in-charge Saptagiri Shankar Olaka, All India Congress Secretary and Pradesh Congress in-charge Christopher Tilak, Pradesh Congress President Ashish Kumar Saha, MLA Sudip Roy Barman, MLA Birajit Sinha, MLA Gopal Chandra Roy and other party leaders.
Speaking at the meeting, MLA Sudip Roy Barman strongly criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi, alleging that the PM’s overseas trips benefit corporate giants like Adani and Ambani rather than the nation.
"The poor are dying of hunger, parents in Tripura are forced to sell their children due to poverty, yet the cries of the people go unheard,” Barman said.
He accused the Modi government of selling the country’s profitable assets and said that the current administration is dismantling welfare schemes introduced by the Congress, such as the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, free education, health initiatives, forest rights law, and food security law.
Barman further alleged that the 2014 electoral victory of PM Modi was achieved through illegal vote rigging, and urged party workers and supporters not to fear but to fight for the country’s future. He highlighted Congress as a party without rigid cadres that listens to the people, contrasting it with the Left Front’s 25-year rule and the current government’s seven-and-a-half-year tenure.
