Tripura Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman on Saturday accused ruling BJP MLAs of prioritizing “commission-based activities” over public service.
Roy Barman made the remarks while campaigning for Congress candidate Chayan Bhattacharya in the Dharmanagar Assembly constituency, ahead of the bypoll in Tripura’s North district.
He led a rally through the Padmapur area, accompanied by hundreds of party workers and supporters, drawing considerable public attention. Congress volunteers also conducted door-to-door outreach to engage voters directly.
Addressing the media, Roy Barman stressed that while “development is a beautiful word,” its real value is measured by tangible improvements in people’s lives. He urged voters to assess whether Dharmanagar has seen genuine progress in economic opportunities, employment, healthcare, and education.
He highlighted concerns over rising prices of essential goods and questioned whether citizens’ incomes have kept pace with inflation. Focusing on youth and farmers, he challenged the government to demonstrate how many jobs it has created and how effectively it has addressed public issues.
Roy Barman further alleged that governance has shifted towards “commission-driven practices,” diverting attention from public welfare. He expressed confidence that voters would exercise their franchise freely and vote according to their conscience, despite any fear or intimidation.
