Tripura has recorded a notable increase in fish production, reaching the 94,000 metric ton mark, according to Fisheries Minister Sudhangshu Das.

The minister shared the update after chairing a state-level review meeting of the Fisheries Department, where performance and budget utilization for ongoing and previous financial years were discussed.

Das said the department is preparing for detailed reviews of achievements from the 2025–26 financial year and planning effective use of allocated funds for 2026–27. He added that the government conducts at least two review meetings annually to monitor progress and address gaps in implementation.

He further informed that district-level review meetings will begin from next month. These sessions will assess achievements from the previous financial year, identify shortcomings, and evaluate whether fish demand is being adequately met across the state. Fund utilization at district and subdivision levels will also be closely examined, including the status of any unspent allocations.

According to the minister, officials across the department attended the meeting, where overall performance was reviewed. He noted that the department has carried out substantial work in the past year, while also emphasizing the need to correct existing loopholes to ensure further improvement.

Highlighting production trends, Das said fish output in the state has steadily increased—from 85,000 metric tons last year to 89,000 metric tons, and now exceeding 94,000 metric tons.

He attributed this growth to various state and central government schemes, including the creation of new ponds and the renovation of defunct water bodies, which have helped boost overall fish production in Tripura.
