Tripura Panchayat Minister Kishor Barman on Tuesday held a virtual review meeting with elected representatives and administrative officials from Zilla Parishads, Panchayat Samitis, and Gram Panchayats across the state to prepare for the Special Gram Sabhas scheduled on June 5, marking World Environment Day.
The meeting, conducted from the State Secretariat, focused on ensuring the smooth and effective observance of World Environment Day 2026 at the Gram Panchayat level throughout the state.
During the discussion, Barman highlighted the importance of environmental conservation and called for focused efforts on water preservation, plastic waste management, cleanliness campaigns, tree plantation drives, and awareness programmes. He instructed local bodies and officials to prioritize these initiatives and ensure their successful implementation through coordinated action at the grassroots level.
The minister also stressed the need for widespread public participation, stating that community involvement is essential to transform the campaign into a people's movement for environmental sustainability.
Urging citizens to contribute actively, Barman appealed for collective efforts to build clean, green, and eco-friendly villages while promoting the protection of natural resources and sustainable living practices.
The Special Gram Sabhas on June 5 are expected to serve as important platforms for community engagement, environmental awareness, and strengthening Tripura's commitment to sustainable rural development.
