The Tripura government has announced a major change in official working schedules by introducing a five-day work week for state government offices. As part of the new arrangement, all Saturdays and Sundays will now be observed as holidays.
The decision was taken during a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha. Addressing the media, Cabinet spokesperson Sushanta Chowdhury said the revised office timing from Monday to Friday will be 9:30 am to 6:00 pm, replacing the earlier system where only second and fourth Saturdays were holidays. The new rules have come into effect immediately.
The state government said the move is aimed at reducing fuel consumption amid rising global crude oil prices and growing economic pressure. The cabinet also approved several fuel-saving measures, including conducting 75 percent of official meetings virtually, reducing large public gatherings, encouraging the use of electric vehicles, setting up charging infrastructure, and minimizing vehicle usage by government officials.
Alongside the administrative changes, the cabinet approved recruitment for 81 vacant posts across different departments. This includes 26 Lower Division Clerk (LDC) posts under the Public Works Department, which will be filled through the Joint Recruitment Board of Tripura (JRBT). Out of these, three posts are reserved for ex-servicemen.
Additionally, 50 Group-C vacancies under the Information and Cultural Affairs Department will be filled through direct recruitment. The posts include translator, reporter, script writer, cultural assistant, folk artist, assistant photographer, assistant librarian, LDC, and several other categories.
The cabinet also cleared recruitment for five Inspector posts under the Small Savings wing of the Finance Department.
