A missing woman from Tripura's Sepahijala district was successfully traced and rescued from Kolkata by Jatrapur Police, bringing an end to days of uncertainty for her family and local residents.
The woman, identified as Promita Majumdar (Bhowmik), a resident of Nirbhoypur village under Jatrapur Police Station, had reportedly left her home on May 23 with her infant child. When she did not return and her whereabouts remained unknown, her family lodged a complaint and appealed for assistance.
Launching an intensive search operation, police utilized mobile phone tracking, CCTV surveillance footage, and digital intelligence gathering to follow leads. Their investigation eventually revealed that Promita and her child were staying at a hotel in the Rajarhat area on the outskirts of Kolkata, West Bengal.
Upon confirming the information, a special team from Jatrapur Police, accompanied by the woman's husband and mother-in-law, immediately traveled to Kolkata. The team located the woman and her child and safely brought them back to Tripura.
Jatrapur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Partha Nath Bhowmik said that the rescue mission was carried out under the leadership of Sub-Inspector Bijoy Chakraborty following credible intelligence inputs. The team returned to the state with the woman and her child on Monday.
Police officials said an inquiry is underway to determine the circumstances that led to her disappearance. Authorities have also advised family members to treat the matter with sensitivity and ensure that the woman does not face any form of physical or psychological harassment after her return.
The successful operation has been widely welcomed by residents of Nirbhoypur and surrounding areas, who praised the prompt action and professionalism displayed by the Jatrapur Police team.
