Tripura recorded 446 cases of alleged illegal infiltration along its international border with Bangladesh between 2023 and 2025, the State Home Department informed the Tripura Legislative Assembly on Monday.

The figures were provided in a written reply to a question raised by CPI(M) MLA Sudip Sarkar during the final day of the Assembly session.

Tripura shares around 856 km of international border with Bangladesh, making prevention of cross-border infiltration a key security challenge for the state.

Responding to questions on measures being taken to strengthen border security, the Home Department said the state government was working closely with Central security and intelligence agencies to check infiltration and improve surveillance along vulnerable stretches.

The department said regular coordination and intelligence-sharing mechanisms are in place among the Tripura Police, Border Security Force (BSF), Special Branch and Intelligence units, as well as the district administration.

It said security agencies regularly conduct coordinated patrolling, naka checking, vehicle searches and surveillance operations in vulnerable border areas and along routes identified as prone to infiltration.

The government also conducts periodic review meetings at various levels to assess infiltration-related data, identify vulnerable hotspots, review arrests and examine gaps in border fencing, besides addressing emerging security concerns.

As an additional security measure, temporary fencing with concertina coils and barbed wire has been installed at vulnerable points, including bridges and culverts, the department said.

The Home Department maintained that the measures are intended to strengthen surveillance, secure vulnerable points along the border and improve coordination among agencies involved in preventing illegal cross-border movement.
