The Government of Tripura has launched a major digital health initiative aimed at improving the accessibility, transparency, and efficiency of healthcare services across the state. The Integrated Health Management Information System (IHMIS) is being implemented at all district and subdivision hospitals, rural hospitals, and primary health centers.

Under this system, patients can quickly generate outpatient tickets by scanning a QR code and access their complete health records digitally. The initiative seeks to deliver modern, data-driven healthcare to all citizens, including those living in remote areas.

On March 2, key officials including Health Secretary Kiran Gitte, Health Director Dr. Debashree Debbarma, State Mission Director ABDM Dr. G. Sharath Naik, Head of Office of Health Authority Dr. Rajesh Anil Acharya, Deputy Director Dr. Alok Dewan, and representatives from Broadcast Engineering Consultants India Limited (BECIL) met to oversee the rollout of IHIMS. The Health Secretary emphasized that state doctors and healthcare personnel should play an active role and that all necessary resources must be provided to ensure a smooth implementation.

Previously, on March 30, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed with BECIL to operationalize IHIMS. The agreement was signed by Health Director Dr. Debbarma, State Mission Director Dr. Naik, and BECIL representative Usha Mangalgi.

The IHIMS project is designed to fully digitize healthcare services in Tripura. Key features include:

  • Digital health records: Every citizen will have a digital medical history accessible to doctors at any government hospital.
  • Integration with Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM): Each citizen will receive an Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA) ID, linking their health records to the national system.
  • Paperless services: Online registration will help reduce long queues in outpatient and emergency departments.
  • Telemedicine and e-prescriptions: Residents, especially in remote areas, can consult specialists at Agartala GB Pant Hospital or IGMC Hospital through teleconsultation services.

Currently, the ABHA system is functional in state and subdivision hospitals, as well as selected primary health centers, with plans to expand to all primary healthcare facilities soon. The initiative aims to strengthen telemedicine and ensure that every citizen in Tripura has access to expert healthcare.
