Tripura Tribal Welfare Minister Bikash Debbarma on Sunday said several residential hostels for tribal students would be constructed in remote areas of Dhalai district at a total cost of Rs 24 crore to improve access to education for students from hilly and distant regions.
While speaking at the foundation stone laying ceremony of the hostel projects at Chailengta he said, “Such projects in remote areas aim at strengthening educational opportunities for tribal students.”
According to the minister, many students from remote and hilly areas have faced difficulties in continuing their studies due to the lack of residential facilities and other limitations.
“Under the initiative, a 50-seat tribal girls’ hostel will be constructed at Moinama Madhab Chandra Higher Secondary School. Chailengta Higher Secondary School will get a 100-seat boys’ hostel and a 50-seat girls’ hostel,” he said.
Debbarma added that foundation stones for several other hostel projects were also laid through virtual mode. These include a 50-seat tribal boys’ hostel and a 50-seat tribal girls’ hostel at Karamchhara Higher Secondary School.
At Chawmanu Higher Secondary School, a 100-seat tribal boys’ hostel will be constructed, while Kathalchhara TMC Higher Secondary School will get a 50-seat tribal boys’ hostel, the minister said.
He said the initiative was aimed at ensuring that students from remote areas could stay in a safe environment and continue their education without facing accommodation-related difficulties.
According to the minister, the hostels would help improve access to schooling for tribal students and support their academic progress, particularly for those living in remote parts of the district.
