Residents of Ward No. 2 under Maynama Gram Panchayat in Sonamura subdivision are expressing growing anger over long-standing issues of deteriorating road conditions and acute drinking water shortage.
According to locals, the main road in Ward No. 2 has been in a deplorable state for a long time. Even light rainfall turns the road into a muddy, waterlogged stretch, severely disrupting daily transportation. Residents allege that the situation becomes critical during medical emergencies, as patients and pregnant women face extreme difficulty reaching hospitals.
In addition to the road problem, villagers have been suffering from a severe drinking water crisis for nearly two months. Locals claim that the “Har Ghar Jal” scheme has effectively stopped functioning in the area. As a result, many residents are forced to collect water from distant sources, including ponds, raising concerns about health and hygiene.
The condition of local infrastructure, including the Anganwadi centre and the JB (Junior Basic) school, is also reported to be in poor shape, further adding to residents’ grievances.
Villagers allege that MLA Tofazzal Hossain had promised before the elections to repair the roads and ensure drinking water supply to every household. However, they claim that no visible action has been taken since the elections concluded.
Despite repeated complaints to the Panchayat authorities and concerned departments, residents say no permanent solution has been provided so far. Frustration among the locals continues to mount as they demand immediate intervention and fulfillment of the promised development work.
