The Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) is all set to go to the polls on April 13, with counting scheduled for April 17.
Over 11,000 security personnel, including members of the Central Armed Paramilitary Forces (CAPF), will be deployed to ensure a smooth and peaceful election process.
Addressing a press conference, Manoj Kumar, IAS (Retd.), Tripura State Election Commissioner, said the tenure of the TTAADC runs until April 18, and the election schedule has been carefully prepared accordingly.
He outlined the key dates:
Notification issue: March 18
Last date for filing nominations: March 25
Scrutiny of nominations: March 26
Last date for withdrawal of candidatures: March 28
Polling day: April 13
Repolling (if necessary): April 16
Counting of votes: April 17
Conclusion of the election process: April 18
Kumar emphasized that the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) is now in effect across TTAADC areas and urged all political parties, public representatives, and government officials to strictly adhere to it. “Videography will also be conducted throughout the process to maintain transparency,” he added.
Electoral Details
The TTAADC comprises 28 District Council constituencies, of which 25 are reserved for Scheduled Tribes and three are unreserved. All eight district magistrates have been appointed as District Election Officers.
The total number of voters stands at 9,62,697, with 4,82,025 male, 4,80,666 female, and six voters categorized as others.
Security Arrangements
DGP Anurag outlined the extensive security measures for the elections:
A total of 11,000 police personnel, including the Tripura State Rifles (TSR) and CAPF, will be deployed.
1,257 polling booths have been classified based on security risk:
High-risk: 311
Perceived security threat: 693
Normal: 253
Security deployment will be proportional to the criticality of each booth. Mobile patrolling, along with civil and police officials, will ensure voter safety.
Candidates will be provided personal security from March 18 until April 13, and all public meetings will require prior approval. Preventive arrests and proactive measures have also been planned, following coordination with District SPs.
The DGP expressed confidence that the election would conclude peacefully, noting that Tripura is an insurgency-free state. In border areas, coordination with the Border Security Force (BSF) has been intensified, with 15 camps strengthened as a second line of defense.
