Two youths from Bihar were detained after Tripura Police seized 194 bottles of banned Eskuf cough syrup, estimated to be worth around Rs 1 lakh, during a vehicle-checking operation in Khowai district on Tuesday.

The seizure was made in the Naikia Kami Para area under Mungiakami Police Station, where police personnel were conducting routine checks.

Mungiakami Police Station Officer-in-Charge Raju Baidya said the two youths were noticed behaving suspiciously in the area. Police subsequently stopped and searched them, recovering 194 bottles of Eskuf cough syrup packed in three bags.

According to police, the duo had travelled to Tripura from Bihar and had reportedly arrived at Mungiakami railway station before heading towards Naikia Kami Para.

The seized cough syrup has an estimated market value of approximately Rs 1 lakh, police said.

A case has been registered in connection with the seizure, and the two detained persons are scheduled to be produced before a court on Wednesday.

Police have launched a further investigation to determine the source of the cough syrup, its intended destination and whether others are involved in the alleged smuggling network.
