Leader of Opposition Jitendra Chaudhury today launched a sharp critique of the BJP, alleging that the party is using the pretext of building a “Hindu Rashtra” to hand over the nation’s resources and land to corporate houses.
Speaking at the Dasarath Debbarma Memorial Lecture held at Muktadhara Hall in Agartala, Chaudhury warned that the BJP’s policies pose serious questions about India’s unity and constitutional integrity.
Taking a pointed dig at former Tipra Motha leader Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma, Chaudhury referred to Pradyot’s recent statement claiming that a tribal leader would become the Chief Minister of Tripura by 2028. “He says such a Chief Minister is needed to safeguard the interests of tribal people. But the real question is—on what basis is this demand being made, and how acceptable is it in the current political environment?” he asked.
Chaudhury also highlighted that since the formation of Tipra Motha, Pradyot has championed slogans such as ‘Greater Tipraland,’ ‘One Last Fight, No Compromise,’ and the ‘Tiprasa Agreement.’ “However, today, these slogans seem to have lost their relevance, and people are gradually forgetting them,” he remarked.
The CPI(M) leader further alleged that the BJP’s policies have worsened the financial insecurity of ordinary citizens, pushing many to take to the streets in protest. “It is imperative that the people of India take a responsible stance to defend their interests amid the current political, social, and economic challenges,” he urged.
