Residents of Dhan Chandra Para under Shivpur ADC Village in South Tripura’s Rishyamukh area continue to face severe hardship due to the absence of a permanent bridge over a local stream. Around 60 families remain cut off from safe and reliable connectivity.
The only access route to schools, markets, farms, and rubber plantations requires crossing a stream using unsafe makeshift arrangements. Villagers have built a temporary bamboo footbridge and, at another point, placed a broken electric pole across the water to create a narrow passage.
These improvised structures are used daily by children, farmers, and other residents, putting them at constant risk. The situation becomes especially dangerous during the monsoon when water levels rise and the crossings turn even more hazardous.
Locals say several students have already been injured while crossing, but no permanent solution has been implemented despite repeated appeals.
“We have no other route. This is our only connection to the outside world,” said a resident.
Villagers claim they have submitted multiple petitions to local representatives and the Block Development Officer. Although officials have visited the area and assured action, no construction work has begun so far.
According to sources, the site was geo-tagged for assessment, but authorities cited lack of funds for bridge construction, stating that higher-level approval is required.
Residents are now demanding urgent government intervention to build a permanent bridge to ensure safe connectivity and end years of hardship.
