In a major success for security forces, a joint operation by the North District Police and the 97th Battalion of the Border Security Force (BSF) led to the recovery of a large consignment of Yaba tablets worth approximately Rs 50 lakh from the Raghna international border area under Dharmanagar police station limits on Saturday.
According to police and BSF sources, acting on intelligence inputs about suspected narcotics storage in the border region, personnel from the 97th Battalion alerted the Dharmanagar police. Following this, a coordinated search operation was launched in the Raghna border area.
During the operation, 48 packets were found abandoned near the barbed wire fencing adjacent to the Raghna Integrated Check Post (ICP). Upon inspection, the packets contained a total of 9,427 Yaba tablets.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the narcotics were likely intended to be smuggled into Bangladesh. However, suspected traffickers may have fled the scene after detecting the presence of security forces, abandoning the consignment behind.
Officials have estimated the black market value of the seized drugs at around ₹50 lakh. The recovered contraband has been handed over to Dharmanagar police for further legal proceedings.
Following the incident, security has been tightened in the border area. Authorities have also launched an investigation to identify and apprehend those involved in the smuggling network.
The seizure has caused concern in the border region and is being viewed as a significant blow to cross-border drug trafficking activities.
