As political tensions rise across the state with clashes and counter-attacks between ruling and opposition camps, the political atmosphere has grown increasingly heated ahead of upcoming elections.

While the State Legislative Assembly election is scheduled for 2028, the municipal and autonomous district council elections are expected to be held earlier.

In this charged political environment, on November 1 at 6 PM, a local gathering of the Indian National Congress was held at Kaskau Para, Booth No. 49, under the Damchhara constituency of Panisagar.

During the event, 28 families comprising a total of 84 voters from the ruling BJP, its ally IPFT, and the opposition CPI(M) joined the Congress party.

The new members were formally welcomed into the party by Sukhendu Bhattacharjee, President of the Panisagar Block Congress, who handed them the party flag. Other Congress leaders present included Ganga Nath, President of the Panisagar Town Committee; Amjad Hossain, Vice-President of the Panisagar Block Congress; Bijon Malakar, Delegate Member of the Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee; Sukanta Nath, Vice-President of the Panisagar Block Youth Congress; Helal Uddin, Vice-Chairman of the Panisagar Block Minority Congress; and Ali Hossain, Member of the Block Committee.

The newly joined members stated that they were inspired by the ideals of the Indian National Congress and chose to leave their previous political affiliations to strengthen the Congress’s movement in the region. They pledged to abide by party discipline and contribute actively to the Congress’s future political struggles.
