The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Wednesday conducted search operations at the residence and business premises of Agartala-based businessman Shahjahan Mia, triggering a stir in the Western Club area along Akhaura Road and Battala Market.

According to sources, ED officials reached Shahjahan Mia’s residence early Wednesday morning and began questioning him. Simultaneously, another team of the central agency conducted a search at his shop located at Battala Fitting Market. The operation was reportedly carried out with the assistance of central security personnel.

Sources said the searches were linked to allegations of suspicious financial transactions and possible dealings involving foreign funds. The agency is also believed to be examining whether Shahjahan Mia has any links to alleged activities in the border areas. Sources further claimed that his movements had been under surveillance for several days before the searches were conducted.

The operation reportedly came as a surprise to Tripura Police, as the ED is said to have conducted the searches independently without prior coordination with the local police.

Shahjahan Mia was questioned throughout the day at both his residence and shop. Speaking about the operation, he said he had not been given any specific information about why the searches were being conducted at his premises.

No major seizure from either location had been reported till Wednesday afternoon. However, sources claimed that ED officials collected certain documents during the search.

The ED has not yet officially released detailed information regarding the operation. The exact nature of the allegations or the specific aspects of the investigation have also not been officially confirmed.

Sources said the documents and other information collected during the searches are being examined to determine whether there were any suspicious financial transactions or links with any cross-border network.

The search and questioning were continuing at both locations till Wednesday afternoon, and further details are expected to emerge as the investigation progresses.
