Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) has undertaken a major step to strengthen waste management and cleanliness across the city’s lanes and by-lanes.

On Thursday, Mayor Deepak Majumder formally inaugurated seven three-wheeler auto hoppers and three sets of mini super suckers at a brief ceremony attended by other corporators.

The mayor noted that since 2022, AMC has been working to keep the city cleaner and more beautiful under the initiative “Swachh Agartala, Sustha Agartala”. As part of this project, the new cleaning machinery has been procured with the support of the state government to enhance public service delivery.

According to AMC, ₹39.20 lakh has been spent on purchasing the seven auto hoppers, while Rs 2.88 crore has been invested in the three mini super sucker units.

Mayor Majumder further stated that the waste generated from hotels, restaurants and fast-food outlets will now be collected separately and sent to the Debendra Chandra Nagar processing centre. The seven auto hoppers will operate under the supervision of the sanitary inspector of the Central Zone.

Highlighting the city’s infrastructural progress, the mayor said that since 2018, various development initiatives taken by the state government have led to significant improvements. Open drains and major flood-control drainage channels are being gradually covered.

The newly procured mini super suckers will be especially effective in cleaning drains along narrow lanes, ensuring smoother water flow during the monsoon season. A dedicated agency has been appointed for the operation of these machines, which will function under the supervision of AMC’s Mechanical Division.
