The Department of Animal Resources Development has issued a public notice prohibiting the transportation of pigs within the state and from outside the state until further orders.

This step has been taken to prevent losses faced by pig farmers due to the outbreak of infectious diseases among pigs.

According to the notification, no pigs may be brought into the state without prior approval from the Department of Animal Resources Development. Consignments arriving at the state’s entry points—by rail or road—will only be allowed entry in strict compliance with Rule 96 of the Transportation of Animals Rules, 2001.

Veterinary officers from the department will inspect the pigs’ health and vaccination records before granting approval. Transporters are required to inform the Director of the Department at least 48 hours before the consignment reaches the entry point.

The notice further clarifies that pigs brought in for commercial purposes will not be permitted to enter the state. All expenses related to health inspection at the entry point must be borne by the transporter. In case any pig is found to be infected, the transporter will be responsible for its proper disposal or removal from the state as per government regulations.

The Department of Animal Resources Development issued this advisory to protect the state’s livestock sector and ensure public safety.
