The Bihar unit of the Congress has unveiled a series of protests scheduled through November to raise concerns over alleged deletions of genuine voters from electoral rolls and demand the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
The campaign will be conducted in three phases, beginning with demonstrations at block headquarters from October 10 to 20. This will be followed by village-level meetings under the slogan ‘Vote Bachao, Desh Bachao’ (Save Vote, Save Country) from October 25 to November 25. The party is also planning a ‘Delhi Chalo’ march on Constitution Day, with thousands of workers expected to join the proposed demonstration.
The decision was taken during a review meeting held at Sadaqat Ashram, the state Congress headquarters in Patna, on Friday. Bihar Congress in-charge Krishna Allavaru and state president Rajesh Ram attended the meeting along with district presidents and other senior party functionaries.
The meeting focused on assessing the party’s organisational strength, reviewing ongoing public outreach activities and preparing for the upcoming agitation. Leaders called for greater coordination among party units and urged workers to strengthen their presence at the grassroots level.
Krishna Allavaru stressed the importance of building a stronger organisational network at booth, panchayat and block levels. He asked district-level leaders to ensure the effective implementation of party programmes, maintain regular contact with the public and improve coordination among workers.
The first phase of the protest will see Congress workers stage marches at block headquarters across Bihar between October 10 and 20. The demonstrations will highlight complaints from citizens who allege that their names have been wrongly removed from electoral rolls, potentially affecting their ability to exercise their voting rights.
State Congress president Rajesh Ram said the agitation would seek to bring the concerns of affected voters into public discussion and increase awareness about the importance of protecting electoral rights.
During the second phase, party workers will organise ‘Vote Bachao, Desh Bachao’ chaupals in villages from October 25 to November 25. These meetings will serve as platforms for residents to share grievances regarding alleged voter-list deletions and discuss issues related to electoral participation.
The Congress intends to expand the initiative across villages and panchayats, enabling party workers to engage directly with local communities and collect complaints from people who believe they have been excluded from electoral rolls.
The final phase of the campaign will involve a proposed ‘Delhi Chalo’ march on Constitution Day. The Bihar Congress expects a large number of party workers to participate in the mobilisation to draw national attention to voter rights and concerns surrounding the electoral process.
Through the phased agitation, the party aims to intensify its public outreach, mobilise its organisational network and press its demand for accountability from the Election Commission. Further details regarding the arrangements for the proposed march are expected to be announced as preparations advance.
