Former Tripura Chief Minister and BJP MP Biplab Kumar Deb today launched a sharp political attack on West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC), accusing the party of carrying forward what he described as decades of misgovernance that began during the Left Front era.
Addressing a press conference in Agartala, Deb alleged that successive Left Front and TMC governments have weakened West Bengal’s economy, driven industries out of the state, and failed to generate adequate employment opportunities for the youth. He projected the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) as the main alternative, stating that the party is committed to restoring development, dignity, and good governance in the state.
The BJP MP claimed that nearly 1.5 crore youths have migrated from West Bengal in search of jobs, blaming what he termed the TMC’s anti-industry and appeasement-oriented policies. He further alleged that around 7,000 small and large industries have either shut down or moved out due to an unfavourable business climate.
Criticising the TMC’s slogan “Ma, Mati, Manush” (Mother, Land, People), Deb said it has remained merely a political catchphrase without delivering real benefits to the public. He asserted that West Bengal, which once contributed 25–30 percent of the Centre’s total revenue, has witnessed a sharp economic decline under both Communist rule and the current TMC leadership, including Mamata Banerjee and her nephew Abhishek Banerjee.
Deb also accused the state’s leadership of prioritising personal and political interests over public welfare, alleging that West Bengal is facing a serious financial crisis marked by mounting debt and stagnant incomes. He claimed the state’s debt burden has reached alarming levels, remarking that even newborns are effectively born into debt.
Highlighting unemployment and industrial decline as key concerns, Deb said the collapse of manufacturing and investment has led to large-scale migration, weakening the state’s socio-economic structure.
On law and order, the BJP leader accused the TMC government of undermining the justice system, alleging that conviction rates remain in single digits due to poor police investigations and political interference.
“People are now fighting for their rights, and the BJP is standing firmly with them,” Deb said, indicating the party’s intention to further expand its presence in West Bengal.
