The Sadar Sub-Divisional Committee of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has lodged a formal complaint with the NCCPS police station in Agartala, alleging criminal intimidation by a local Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader.
The complaint, dated November 16, 2025, refers to an incident that reportedly took place on the afternoon of November 14. According to the CPI(M), BJP leaders and supporters of the Barjala Mandal held a rally and Patha Sabha at the Natunnagar Co-operative, opposite the Barjala Mandal BJP office, to celebrate the NDA alliance’s victory in the Bihar State Assembly elections.
The CPI(M) alleges that Tinku Brata Das, Secretary of the Barjala Mandal Committee, issued threats during the gathering, allegedly stating that he would “kill CPI(M) supporters” and “destroy the life and adulthood” of members of the party.
In the complaint letter, CPI(M) Secretary Amal Chakraborty said the “open, daylight threat” has left party supporters feeling unsafe and subjected to “fear and mental agony.” The party argues that the remarks amount to “criminal intimidation and criminal abetment to invite violence,” potentially encouraging assaults and worsening the law-and-order situation in the state.
The CPI(M) has requested immediate legal action against Tinku Brata Das and has urged the police to provide security to its supporters on a “topmost priority basis.”
As supporting evidence, the party submitted video footage of the alleged incident, including a link to the material posted on a social media platform. A copy of the complaint has also been forwarded to the Superintendent of Police, West Tripura District.
The police have not yet issued an official statement regarding the complaint or any potential action.
