Tripura BJP Janajati Morcha leader and state general secretary Bipin Debbarma on Tuesday claimed that the Tipra Motha Party (TMP) is steadily losing influence, asserting that its “exit” from the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) in 2026 is now “inevitable.”
Addressing a press conference in Agartala, Debbarma alleged that the party’s diminishing strength is reflected in the recent “attacks” on BJP workers. He argued that such behaviour is born out of political insecurity.
Debbarma announced that a large-scale joining programme will be held on December 13 in front of Rabindra Bhavan, organized by the BJP Janajati Morcha. He said thousands of tribal people from across Tripura are expected to participate.
“Over 5,000 tribal individuals from almost every district are likely to join the BJP. Observers have been appointed in every mandal to ensure the programme is conducted smoothly,” he said.
According to Debbarma, the upcoming rally will make it evident that the tribal community now considers the BJP a more dependable political alternative in the state.
Responding to media questions, he alleged that Tipra Motha workers have repeatedly targeted BJP members. “They are preventing us from holding events despite being in an alliance with us. We have never stopped them from holding their meetings or rallies—even their rally in Agartala was conducted without any interference. This is a democratic nation,” he said.
He further claimed that TMP’s declining popularity has driven it to use “political violence” as a means of survival. Despite this, he stressed that the BJP remains unfazed and intends to continue its political activities through democratic methods.
