Tensions flared in Tripura’s Kailashahar Municipal Council area, Ward No. 9, after construction work on an old road near the Manu Land Customs, adjacent to the Manu River and a local cremation ground, was abruptly stopped by the Bangladesh Border Guard (BGB).

According to local sources, BGB personnel intervened in the brick-paving work this morning, informing the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) that, under border regulations, no construction or paving activities are permitted within 150 yards of the international boundary. Following this warning, the contractor was compelled to halt all work immediately.

The suspension of construction has significantly impacted the local community. Families attempting to transport deceased relatives to the nearby cremation ground faced considerable difficulties due to the blocked access.

Contractor Abdul Mannan, who had resumed work today under administrative orders after a prolonged suspension, confirmed that the intervention by the Bangladesh BGB forced another stoppage. He has formally reported the matter to the local administration.

The incident has created a tense atmosphere in the border area. Authorities, including the BSF, are expected to take steps to resolve the situation and ensure that the concerns of local residents are addressed.
