The debate over Tripura’s law and order intensified on Sunday after Leader of the Opposition and CPIM state committee secretary Jitendra Chaudhury alleged a “total collapse of Rule of Law” in the state, following an attack on two CPIM leaders at Dharmanagar.
Chaudhury, who visited GB Trauma Centre in Agartala to meet former MLA Amitabha Datta, said Datta and party leader Ratan Roy were “grievously injured” in an assault allegedly carried out by “BJP-backed miscreants.”
Roy was discharged after treatment, while Datta continues to be under medical supervision.
The CPIM leader claimed that the attack took place “in the presence of police,” accusing the administration of failing to intervene or arrange immediate medical support. “They were lying in a pool of blood, but the administration took no steps to rescue them. This is the real state of Law and Order in Tripura,” Chaudhury said.
He further alleged that assaults on opposition workers have become “a daily occurrence,” asserting that such incidents demonstrate the “absence of democracy” in the state.
Chaudhury said the opposition would continue its fight “to defend democratic rights and restore Rule of Law.”
There was no immediate response from the ruling BJP or police authorities regarding the allegations.
