At least eight people were killed following an explosion near Gate No. 1 of Delhi’s Red Fort Metro Station on Monday evening. The blast reportedly occurred in a parked car, triggering a fire that spread to several nearby vehicles.
According to officials from the Delhi Fire Department, a call about the explosion was received shortly after 7 PM. Multiple fire tenders were dispatched to the spot, and the flames were brought under control by 7:29 PM.
Preliminary reports suggest a CNG cylinder explosion may have caused the incident, though the exact cause has not yet been confirmed. A forensic team and bomb disposal squad are examining the vehicle and surrounding area to determine whether the blast was accidental or deliberate.
Several injured victims have been taken to LNJP Hospital, where emergency medical teams are attending to them.
Deputy Chief Fire Officer A.K. Malik said,“We received information about a blast in a car near Chandni Chowk Metro Station. Seven units were immediately sent to the location. The fire has been contained, and our teams remain on-site for further assessment.”
Following the incident, authorities have sounded a high alert across the national capital. Security agencies have intensified patrolling and cordoned off the affected area around Red Fort.
