With Durga Puja approaching, the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) has intensified preparations across the city, focusing on road connectivity, traffic management, power supply and civic services to ensure a smooth and hassle-free experience for residents and visitors.
Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor Dipak Majumder said a high-level coordination meeting was held with officials from the AMC, Smart City Mission, PWD, Power Department, TUDA, Tripura Police, Traffic Police, Jal Board, DWS, Forest Department and Fire and Emergency Services.
Majumder said a large number of devotees from different parts of Tripura are expected to visit Agartala during the Puja days. “Our objective is to ensure that people can enjoy Durga Puja comfortably and without facing any inconvenience. All concerned departments have been asked to work in close coordination,” he said.
According to the Mayor, Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha has directed the concerned departments to ensure that roads across Agartala remain motorable and that all ongoing road-related works are completed by October 10. The civic administration has already initiated steps to meet the deadline.
The Power Department has also been asked to coordinate with Puja organisers and hold meetings with different clubs and committees to ensure an uninterrupted electricity supply during the festivities.
Majumder said the PWD has been instructed to complete its ongoing works properly while maintaining coordination with other departments to avoid disruption during the Puja season.
Traffic management will be another major focus. The Traffic SP has been directed to take necessary measures to prevent congestion and ensure the smooth movement of vehicles and pedestrians across the city during the festival.
The AMC will also deploy additional manpower during the Puja days to support traffic management and strengthen civic services.
The civic body said preparations are being carried out on a priority basis so that all essential works are completed well before the festival and Agartala is ready to welcome thousands of devotees during Durga Puja.
