Ahead of the upcoming Village Committee elections under the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), the State Election Commission and Tripura Police on Monday reviewed the prevailing law-and-order situation, security arrangements and overall preparedness to ensure peaceful and smooth conduct of the polls.
The meeting was held through video conference and was chaired by Tripura State Election Commissioner P.K. Chakraborty. Director General of Police G.S. Rao, Inspector General of Police (Law and Order) Ipper Manchak and Secretary of the State Election Commission Anurag Sen were also present.
District Election Officers, including District Magistrates and Collectors, and Superintendents of Police from across the state participated in the meeting.
According to a post shared by the State Election Commission on Facebook, the meeting reviewed the current law-and-order situation and discussed security arrangements, preparedness and other election-related matters concerning the General Election to the TTAADC Village Committees, 2026.
“The meeting reviewed the current law and order situation and discussed security arrangements, preparedness, and other election-related issues to ensure the conduct of the General Election to the TTAADC Village Committees, 2026, in a peaceful, secure, and orderly manner,” the commission said.
The commission said necessary directions were issued to the concerned authorities to ensure effective coordination, adequate security arrangements and the smooth conduct of the polling process.
The Village Committee elections are scheduled to be held on September 28, while counting of votes will take place on October 5.
The elections will be conducted across 587 Village Committees, covering 2,634 constituencies and 4,597 seats.
As per the latest data released by the State Election Commission, a total of 9,820 candidates are in the fray for the elections.
The commission said 1,069 candidates withdrew their nominations during the withdrawal period. Of them, 105 were from the BJP, 302 from the CPI(M), 39 from the Congress, 12 from the IPFT, 80 from the Tipra Motha Party and one from the CPI.
A total of 414 candidates belonging to other parties and independents also withdrew their candidature.
With the polling date approaching, the authorities have stepped up coordination between the civil administration and police machinery to ensure adequate security and maintain law and order throughout the electoral process.
