Eight female students were injured after sparks from a 33KV high-voltage power transmission line reportedly fell onto an orphanage and madrasa during a rainstorm in the Rabindranagar Gram Panchayat area under Sonamura.

According to local reports, the incident occurred on Sunday afternoon when strong winds and heavy rain swept through the area. At the time, students were studying inside the Oramara Madrasa and Orphanage. Suddenly, sparks reportedly began emanating from the overhead high-tension electric wires passing above the institution.

Witnesses said the sparks fell into the madrasa premises, triggering panic among the students. In the ensuing chaos, eight girls reportedly became distressed and suffered injuries or health complications. They were immediately rescued by teachers and nearby residents and taken to the Sonamura Community Health Centre, where they received primary medical treatment.

Teachers at the madrasa have urged authorities to urgently relocate the high-voltage transmission line away from the institution, citing serious safety concerns.

Local residents also raised concerns about poor road connectivity in the area, stating that the lack of proper roads makes emergency response and evacuation extremely difficult in critical situations. They have appealed for immediate road reconstruction and infrastructure improvements to prevent future risks.

Authorities are yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident.
