Continuous heavy rainfall has disrupted normal life across Tripura, with several parts of the state reporting severe waterlogging and traffic disruptions after intense showers over the past 24 hours.
As per data released by the Meteorological Centre, Agartala, rainfall recorded between 8:30 AM on July 12 and 8:30 AM on July 13, 2026, showed that Agartala received the highest rainfall in the state at 138.0 mm. Bishramganj in Sepahijala district recorded 116.0 mm, followed by South Tripura district with 85.0 mm and Amarpur in Gomati district with 61.3 mm.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for West Tripura and Sepahijala districts, predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall ranging from 7 cm to 20 cm at isolated places. A yellow alert has been issued for other districts, indicating the possibility of continued heavy showers.
The persistent rainfall has led to widespread waterlogging in Agartala city and other areas, affecting road connectivity, traffic movement, and daily activities of residents.
According to the Meteorological Centre, heavy rainfall activity is expected to continue in parts of Tripura until July 16, 2026, with isolated areas likely to receive heavy to very heavy showers.
Weather officials said the ongoing rainfall is due to the influence of several atmospheric systems, including an upper-air cyclonic circulation over the North Bay of Bengal and adjoining South Bangladesh, along with another circulation over East Bangladesh and nearby regions. A trough extending from northwest Bihar to Manipur through Bangladesh and Tripura is also contributing to the increased moisture flow and rainfall activity across the state.
Authorities have advised residents to remain alert as further rainfall is expected in the coming days.
