Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha on Sunday inaugurated the 50-bed Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee Agartala Civil Hospital and dedicated the modern healthcare facility to the people, marking a significant step towards strengthening healthcare services in Tripura.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Dr. Saha said the state government is committed to modernizing government hospitals and developing an integrated healthcare system to ensure quality treatment facilities for all citizens.
Calling the new hospital a pilot project, the Chief Minister said the government has moved beyond the earlier challenges faced by public hospitals and is working continuously to improve infrastructure, services, and patient care. He highlighted that the newly inaugurated hospital is equipped with modern technology and will function as a paperless healthcare facility.
“The aim is to provide better healthcare services, especially for poor and needy people. With this hospital, residents of Agartala will no longer have to travel far for emergency treatment,” Dr. Saha said.
The hospital, built at a cost of Rs 24.37 crore, offers facilities including outpatient departments for ENT, medicine, and gynecology, minor and major surgery services, mother and child care, 50 oxygen-supported beds, an oxygen plant, ambulance services, and an Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP).
Dr. Saha said the government is planning to establish similar modern hospitals in Municipality and Nagar Panchayat areas across the state if the pilot project proves successful. He added that efforts are underway to ensure availability of doctors, ambulance services, and other essential healthcare facilities in every hospital.
Emphasizing the importance of an integrated health system, the Chief Minister said Tripura has made significant progress in the healthcare sector, with referral cases declining by 83%. He also mentioned that seven kidney transplant procedures have already been successfully conducted in the state, while preparations are underway for heart and liver transplant facilities.
He further informed that mother and child hospitals are being developed not only in Agartala but also in other districts to expand specialized healthcare services.
The inauguration programme was attended by Mayor and MLA Dipak Majumder, Deputy Mayor Manika Das Datta, Health Secretary Kiran Gitte, Urban Development Secretary Milind Ramteke, Municipal Commissioner Saju Wahid A, and other dignitaries.
