In a major operation, police from Madhupur Police Station seized illegal medicines worth approximately Rs 7 lakh that were being smuggled to Bangladesh. Acting on a tip-off, police conducted the operation late Thursday night near the Ananda Chowmuhani area under Madhupur Police Station limits.

According to police sources, a team led by ASI Uttam Kumar Dutta, along with other officers, set up a watch based on confidential information. Around midnight, they noticed a speeding vehicle coming from the Agartala side and heading toward the Adarsha Colony border area through Anand Chowmuhani. When the police signaled the vehicle to stop, the driver attempted to evade capture.

A brief chase ensued, during which the vehicle got stuck in a roadside ditch. The driver, however, managed to flee the scene. Upon searching the vehicle, police recovered a large quantity of branded medicines estimated to be worth Rs  7 lakh.

The seized items included over 3,000 tablets used for blood pressure treatment, 1,800 bottles of Scalyx lotion, and more than 300 packets of pain relief ointments.

Police believe the consignment was being smuggled into Bangladesh. The successful seizure was the result of prompt action and intelligence gathering by the Madhupur Police team.

Authorities have launched a manhunt to apprehend the absconding driver and are investigating the smuggling network behind the operation.
