After the state government issued a new notification, three senior women community health guides lost their jobs and were seen breaking down in tears on Monday morning in front of the Chief Minister’s residence.

Holding their termination notices, they pleaded, “Chief Minister, please save us,” and tried to seek his intervention.

The three women had been working for several years in various state health projects as community health guides. Recently, the government issued a notification stating that all community health guides above 60 years of age would be relieved from service from November 1.

This directive led to the termination of these three employees.

Suddenly rendered jobless, the women now face severe uncertainty regarding their livelihood. Expressing their anguish, they said, “At this age, if we fall sick, where will we get money for the medicines we need? Running a household or fulfilling our responsibilities is out of the question—now just surviving has become extremely difficult.”

Despite their efforts, they were unable to meet the Chief Minister. Overwhelmed by despair, they added that death seemed like the only way forward.

The situation drew the attention of Subrata Debnath, Officer-in-Charge of East Agartala Police Station, who assured the women that the matter would be brought to the government’s notice. Taking the initiative, he also arranged for the three senior women to be safely escorted back to their homes.
