Due to the advanced expertise of the Cardiology Department at Agartala Government Medical College & GBP Hospital, a 56-year-old patient from Sonamura has regained mobility and a pain-free life.
For the past six months, the patient had endured severe leg pain that worsened with every step, often leaving him sleepless at night. In recent weeks, his condition became critical as blood circulation to both legs sharply declined.
Under the care of Consultant Cardiologist Dr. Rakesh Das, the patient underwent an angiography on 17 November 2025, which revealed severe narrowing and blockage of arteries in both legs—a classic case of Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD). The right leg artery was almost completely blocked from the thigh to the knee, posing a serious risk if left untreated.
Recognizing the urgency, Dr. Das recommended immediate intervention. On 2 December 2025, a stent was successfully implanted in the affected artery using a minimally invasive procedure, requiring no surgical incision. The patient responded swiftly, regaining normal walking ability and restored blood flow. He was discharged from the hospital just two days later, on 4 December 2025.
The entire procedure was performed free of cost under the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana, sparing the patient and his family from an estimated Rs 3 lakh expense in private hospitals.
The success of the treatment was credited to a dedicated team of medical professionals: Dr. Rakesh Das (Consultant Cardiologist), Dr. Anindya Sundar Tribedi (Head of Department), Dr. Manna Bhattacharjee, Dr. Arghya Pratim Nath, Dr. Anvesha Debnath, and Dr. Prantik Roy, along with the Cath Lab team—technician Sanjay Ghosh, nurses Debabrata Debnath, Prankrishna Deb, Manas Dutta, Titiksha Majumder, and Echo Technician Kishan Roy.
The patient’s family expressed deep gratitude to the team for delivering world-class treatment within Tripura, eliminating the need to travel elsewhere for costly medical care.
This case highlights GBP Hospital’s capability to provide advanced cardiac and vascular care, offering hope to patients suffering from life-altering conditions like PAD and PVD, while ensuring access to affordable, high-quality treatment.
