Tribal Welfare Minister Bikash Debbarma launched a sharp attack on Leader of the Opposition Jitendra Chaudhury, calling him a “curse for the tribal community” despite being from the same background.
The minister challenged Chaudhury to contest from a tribal-reserved constituency, claiming that he would not get a single vote there.
Addressing a press conference, Minister Debbarma alleged that the CPI(M) government had done nothing for the development of the tribal population during its long tenure in power.
“For 35 years, the Left kept the tribal communities backward. They deprived tribals of education because they knew that educated people cannot be deceived. The Left deliberately kept tribals away from the light of education and development. But now, the tribal people have understood their tactics and will no longer support them,” he said.
Debbarma further stated that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the overall development of tribal communities has become a reality.
“From education to infrastructure, visible progress is taking place in tribal areas. If the government continues to work sincerely, people will definitely support the party in the upcoming ADC elections,” he added.
Announcing upcoming events, the minister said that the Tripura unit of the BJP will celebrate the 150th birth anniversary of Bhagwan Birsa Munda as Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas (Tribal Pride Day).
The state-level main program will be held at Khumulwng on November 15, where for the first time, around 1,200 artists will perform the traditional Mamita dance together. In addition, a series of programs will be organized across different districts of the state from November 13 to 15, including rallies and cultural events to mark the occasion.
“The entire state will participate in the celebration of Birsa Munda’s birth anniversary through various programs that highlight the pride and heritage of the tribal community,” Minister Debbarma said.
