Tripura Food and Civil Supplies Minister Sushanta Chowdhury on Friday said that the Department of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs is continuously working to further strengthen the public distribution system (PDS) in the state and ensure that its benefits reach people in every part of Tripura.

Speaking at a seminar titled “Safe Products, Confident Consumers” held at Pragya Bhavan in Agartala, the minister highlighted the government’s commitment to improving consumer services and ensuring the smooth supply of essential commodities across the state.

The seminar, organised by the Department of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, was attended by members of Fair Price Shop Management Associations, ration dealers and business associations from various districts of the state.

During the programme, Chowdhury also participated in an important review meeting with fair price shop dealers and representatives of different merchant associations to discuss the effectiveness of the public distribution system and the supply of essential commodities in the state.

The minister said the meeting aimed to understand the problems faced by stakeholders connected with the public distribution system and to find practical solutions through joint efforts. He stressed the need for maintaining vigilance so that consumers do not face any difficulties in receiving essential goods and services under the PDS.

Chowdhury appealed to all stakeholders associated with the food and public distribution system to cooperate with the department in the larger interest of the people of the state. He also directed senior officials present at the meeting to take necessary steps for resolving the issues discussed and further improving the functioning of the department.
