MONDRA, a leading social welfare society, in collaboration with the Department of Sociology, Holy Cross College, Agartala, organised a special lecture on “Roots and Reel: MONDRA Model for Sustainable Narratives” today.
Dr. Sunil Kalai, Head, Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, Tripura University and Founder-president of MONDRA, delivered keynote lecture during the session emphasising, “When stories grow from the soil, they feed the soul. That is the heart of Roots and Reels” he said.
Dr. Kalai, a distinguished academician and social innovator, shared deep insights into the MONDRA Model — an innovative framework that weaves together indigenous wisdom, cultural storytelling and modern communication practices to shape sustainable community narratives.
He highlighted how reconnecting with traditional roots and local identities can serve as powerful tools for social transformation and environmental consciousness through the practice of agriculture.
Emphasising the importance of participatory communication, Dr. Kalai urged the youth to become “narrators of change,” blending knowledge with empathy and creativity to foster inclusive growth.
The event sought to motivate students of Sociology to engage with social welfare organisations like MONDRA, encouraging them to take active roles in grassroots development and community empowerment.
Faculty members and students of the department attended the lecture with great enthusiasm.
The session concluded with an engaging interactive discussion, where participants shared reflections on sustainability, identity and the role of youth in reimagining the future of the Northeast.
