Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha on Thursday praised the National Cadet Corps (NCC) for its unwavering contribution to discipline and community service in Tripura, stating that the organisation has consistently stood at the forefront of societal responsibility.
He made the remarks while inaugurating the Tripura NCC Fest 2025 at the Tripura Institute of Technology in Narsingarh, Agartala.
Recalling his own experience as an NCC cadet during his Class 11 days in 1970, Dr. Saha said that the lessons he learned then became the foundation of his life.
“Whatever I learnt in the NCC has stayed with me. I had even received an award at the time, something I hadn’t expected. Today’s cadets receive far more opportunities than we did in our time. I urge the youths to serve with dedication,” he said.
He also noted that patriotism has become more visible in society in recent years, attributing this shift to the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Dr. Saha emphasised that although NCC cadets are not soldiers, the training they receive serves as a strong base for those who later join the Army, Navy or Air Force.
“Indiscipline is tempting and often draws people in, but NCC instills discipline. Today we are celebrating not just a festival, but the spirit of unity, order and selfless service,” he added.
Seeing hundreds of cadets in uniform, he said he felt confident about the future of Tripura being in “capable and responsible hands.”
Highlighting the growth of NCC, Dr. Saha shared that the organisation was formed in July 1948 and has expanded steadily in Tripura over the decades.
“It is the largest uniformed youth organisation in the world. The Tripura NCC Fest 2025 is a significant celebration of youth potential, discipline and national service. It connects civil society with the world of uniformed service and allows the public to see how their youths are being shaped,” he said.
He added that as a border state, Tripura understands the importance of alertness and perseverance — qualities that NCC cadets of the state have demonstrated consistently not only in parade grounds but also in carrying out service activities across society.
